Informace o výzkumné skupině: We are a small laboratory at the Institute for Neuropathology, University of Düsseldorf, Germany, doing molecular and cellular research since several years on the call-relevant topic of virus-induced neurodegenerative diseases and have published on this in high-ranked journals (PNAS; TINS; papers attached). In a nutshell, our approach is that viruses disrupt proteostasis during their replication process which under some circumstances triggers protein aggregation of proteins relevant in neurodegenerative disease. For example, we demonstrated the mechanistic link between influenza virus and synuclein aggregation, or herpes virus and tau phosphorylation (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.09.11.459903v2). In drug discovery, we have identified small molecule compounds that reverse virus-induced aberrant proteostasis.
