DANUBIUS-RI joins the ERIC landscape

The European Commission has granted the legal status of European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) to DANUBIUS-RI, serving as the International Centre for Advanced Science on River-Sea Systems.

DANUBIUS-RI focuses on the understanding and quantifying of key aspects of River-Sea Systems, including water stores and flows, sediment dynamics, nutrients and pollutants, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. It also concentrated on assessing the effects of climate change and understanding extreme events, such as floods and droughts, to enhance the resilience of River-Sea Systems. 

Danubius is the first ERIC to be hosted by Romania. Six outher countries joint the ERIC: Austria, Czechia, Italy, Moldova, Netherlands and UK.

The ERIC is a specific legal form under EU law that facilitates the establishment and operation of Research Infrastructures with European interest. A European Commission decision is required to set up a new ERIC.
