Mandatory Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in the Funding & Tenders Portal: Be Prepared

17/04/2026

As part of its commitment to strengthening data security, the European Commission is gradually introducing mandatory two-factor authentication (2FA) for access to the Funding & Tenders Portal. We recommend that all users prepare for this change in advance to avoid any potential issues when logging in.

To support users, a clear and practical infographic has been prepared as a guide to the most common 2FA-related issues. This concise resource covers eight key situations, including:

  • what to do if you lose your device,
  • the possibility of using a personal device for 2FA,
  • how to resolve common registration errors (e.g. Error 5305),
  • what to do if you forget your security questions.

You can find the infographic here.

An online webinar organised by the European Commission, focusing on the practical aspects of implementing 2FA, will take place on 13 May 2026. Further details are available here.
