Hungary loses access to part of EU financing

Many Hungarian organizations are now ineligible for EU funding including Horizon Europe funding. It resulted from long-term concerns over corruption and breaches of rule of law in Hungary. 

EU Council decision aims at Hungarian entities that have the form of so-called public interest trust and those managed by such an entity. This includes  21 universities and several other educational and cultural institutions. 

The public interest funds were criticized as a tool used by Victor Orban's government to control education and information in Hungary and limit the rule of law.
