ESFRI Roadmap 2026 open for submissions

09/10/2024

European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) announced at the Infoday on October 8 the beginning of the process that will lead to an updated version of its Roadmap, to be completed in 2026. The Info Day marked the official invitation to the research community to propose new Research Infrastructures for inclusion on the ESFRI Roadmap 2026.

The deadline to submit proposals is 8 April 2025Member States, Associated countries and EIROforum members are eligible to submit proposals for the ESFRI Roadmap 2026. The update process will also include the monitoring of projects included in the ESFRI Roadmap in 2016, 2018, and 2021.

One important aspect of the new ESFRI RM 2026 will be the focus in the financial sustainability of the European RI ecosystem. New proposals will be asked to present a robust financial commitment by, at least. two MS, AC or EiroForum members, the lead member, and, at least, an additional member.

New proposals of RI will undergo the selection procedure based on the evaluation of the scientific case and the implementation case. The introduction of a new dimension in the scientific case, called 'environmental considerations' will be another novelty in evaluation.

Additionally, ESFRI strongly recommends to use the Landscape Analysis 2024 to guide the presentation of new proposals based on current gaps or futures needs of the European RI ecosystem in order to avoid unnecessary duplicities in the RI ecosystem
