ESFRI Report: Funding of Research Infrastructures

The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) has published a new report "Funding of Research Infrastructures" addressing the funding landscape of European Research Infrastructures (RIs) based on responses from 54 RIs across 19 MS. The report identifies key challenges, including disparities in funding mechanism between distributed and single-sited RIs and the need for greater transparency in funding sources and access cost calculations.

The findings highlight the critical role of national and ESFRI roadmaps in shaping a coherent European RI strategy, ensuring long-term sustainability and efficiency. The report also presents recommendations for improving funding models, fostering collaboration, and enhancing financial planning across the RI ecosystem.
