EOSC EU Node launched

10/10/2024

The European Commission technically launched the EOSC EU Node on October 10 in Brussels. To foster the development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), the Commission has deployed into production the EOSC EU Node in the form of managed services provided by third-party contractors.

The EOSC EU Node:

  • Facilitates the creation of the "Web of FAIR data and interoperable services" under the Open Science Policy.
  • Puts a "seed in the ground" for the development of the EOSC Federation by putting into operation the first recognised EOSC Node at the European level for the initial 3 years of service duration.
  • Offers core services for scientific research infrastructures to federate and common horizontal services for end-users to benefit from.
  • Defines a pathway and blueprint for other potential EOSC Node operators to join federation.

The EOSC EU Node has an open concept and is only the first node of the federation. National, regional and/or thematic service providers as well as autonomous EOSC Nodes can connect to the federation via established interoperability frameworks and policies.
