The European Innovation Council launched a Prize that will be awarded to towns and cities which develop successfully their innovation ecosystems, enhance their attractiveness towards investors, industry, enterprises and talents and involve citizens in the decision-making processes. Six prizes will be awarded in 2 categories:
- European Capital of Innovation: for cities with a minimum population of 250 000 inhabitants
- European Rising Innovative City: for towns and cities between 50 000 and 250 000 inhabitants
