How to claim the MSCA special needs allowance? Get acquainted with the official guidelines of the European Commission

16/01/2024

The European Commission pays particular attention to inclusion of researchers within MSCA projects. The MSCA foresee financial support for the additional costs entailed by recruited or seconded researchers/staff members with disabilities that would make their participation in MSCA impossible without extra financial support.

European Research Executive Agency (REA) has now published official guidelines, how MSCA beneficiaries can claim this so-called special needs allowance.

Special needs’ support contributes to the additional costs that researchers/staff members with disabilities face due to the increased costs of their mobility in the main MSCA actions. The support is intended for the acquisition of special needs items or services (e.g. assistance by third persons, adaptation of work environment, additional travel/transportation costs). Additional costs that are already covered by another source, such as national social security or health insurance, are not eligible under this support.
